Repeated Government Gateway emails

After receiving 4 emails from Government Gateway at around midnight last night asking me to confirm my email address and giving a verification code I was worried. I called HMRC and spoke to a woman who said that every call she's had this morning has been about this same thing. She read out a script she's been given, basically saying that they are aware of it and to ignore the emails and not to worry (!) I also found a thread on Reddit starting 4 days ago with people reporting the same thing - repeated emails (often in 3's) late at night or early morning.

Given that I had to wait 20 mins to talk to someone, I thought it would be useful to put the word out!
